Lily May Bennett

Lily May Bennett, age 82, of Volga, WV, died Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the Broaddus Hospital in Philippi, WV. She was born November 14, 1941, in Elkins, WV, a daughter of the late John and Caroline Foster.

On October 31, 1962, she married James “Jim” Bennett who preceded her in death on January 2, 2006, in the Sago Mine Disaster. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, John A. Bennett; one granddaughter, Kristie Bennett; two sisters, Anges Foster and Gladys Tomey and three brothers, Sam, Johnny and Roy Foster.

She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Griffith and fiancé Rocco Cooper of Volga; two grandsons, Chad A. Bennett and wife Amber of Myrtle Beach, SC and John Darnell, III and wife Krystie of Volga; two granddaughters, Danielle Bennett of Beverly, WV and Ashley Hoover and husband Christopher of Waverly, OH; eight great-grandchildren; special niece, Debbie Marsh Scott and husband Terry of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bennett was a seamstress and a member of the Buckhannon Union Mission Church.

Friends will be received Monday, November 11, 2024, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Estes officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tallmansville, WV.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Buckhannon Union Mission Church.
