Wesleyan volleyball downs Concord in 3-2 conference win

BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team hosted the Mountain Lions of Concord University Tuesday evening. The Bobcats recorded the win, taking the match in five sets, and upped its conference record to 2-2.

Set one was taken by Wesleyan 25-17, but the Mountain Lions came back from a 20-12 deficit to win set two, 26-24. Wesleyan took set three while Concord won set four. The Bobcats in set five started out strong with a kill from Olivia Albrecht and Bhrooke Axe put them out front 2-0. With the score at 14-10, in favor of Wesleyan, Jalynn West set the ball to Emily Dension who fired a kill over the net to secure the victory for the Bobcats.

Notable performances for the Bobcats included Axe, who tallied a season high 19 kills. Axe also recorded eight digs and two blocks, defensively. Sophomore Dension, collected 18 kills along with 11 digs and one solo block. Freshman Alauna Wilson recorded 12 kills along with one block. Libero, Alexis Moeschler had an impressive 26 digs for the Bobcats along with three assists and one serving ace. Setter West, totaled 62 assists on the night as well as two serving aces and seven digs.

The Bobcats will play the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets this Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m during Wesleyan’s homecoming weekend in the Rockefeller Center. Admission is free.
