Carpenter Crunch Time Week 5; Better late than never

BUCKHANNON – Okay, I admit it. I wasn’t able to get this story posted before I made the trip to Morgantown Friday evening. I assure you that all games were picked way before the kickoffs happened on Friday.

Let’s get right to the important stuff this week.

Our standings after this week:

Name   Week   Overall
Brian      5-2       23-5
Duane   5-2       23-5
Katie      3-4       16-12
Monica 3-4       14-14

Brian and I tied for the lead last week with identical 5-2 records. That keeps us in a tie overall with identical 23-5 marks. Katie and Monica both went 3-4 as Katie remains in third place with a 16-12 record with Monica residing in last with a 14-14 record.

Last week, we had seven readers finish with 6-1 records, but our winner(s)of the $20 gift certificate based on the tiebreaker of the WVU-Kansas games (60 points) were Steve Hollen and Greg Abel, both of whom selected 62 points. Congrats to both Steve and Greg.

Now onto our games this week:

Buckhannon-Upshur (0-4) at Morgantown (3-1)

This is going to be a tough two-game stretch for the Bucs going to Morgantown then hosting Fairmont Senior next week. Keep the faith Bucs, it will get better, but not tonight:

Duane: Morgantown; Brian: Morgantown; Katie: Morgantown; Monica: Morgantown

Robert C. Byrd (2-2) at Bridgeport (4-0)

The big rivalry game of the week. While RCB is ranked 13th this week in Class AAA, I really don’t think they will be able to hang with the Indians. No one has thus far and I don’t think the Eagles will be the first.

Duane: Bridgeport; Brian: Bridgeport; Katie: Bridgeport; Monica: Bridgeport

University (1-2) at Fairmont Senior (4-0)
Much like Bridgeport, the Polar Bears have been on a roll this year. University isn’t bad, but like the Eagles with the Indians, I don’t think UHS will have enough to hang with the Polar Bears.

Duane: Fairmont Senior; Brian: Fairmont Senior; Katie: University; Monica: University

The Final Four:

Philip Barbour (3-1) at Elkins (3-1)

Duane: Philip Barbour; Brian: Philip Barbour; Katie: Philip Barbour; Monica: Philip Barbour

West Virginia Wesleyan (0-3) at West Virginia State (2-1)

Duane: West Virginia State; Brian: West Virginia State; Katie: West Virginia State; Monica: West Virginia State

Western Michigan (1-2) at Marshall (1-2)

Duane: Marshall; Brian: Marshall; Katie: Western Michigan; Monica: Marshall

Oklahoma State (3-1) at Kansas State (3-1)

Duane: Oklahoma State; Brian: Kansas State; Katie: Kansas State; Monica: Kansas State
