A Buckhannon man is facing five counts of attempted murder after allegedly ramming vehicles into three homes “in an attempt to murder multiple people that he believed had wronged him,” according to a press release from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office.
Marvin D. “Buck” Tenney, 82, of Tahoe Street in Buckhannon, was arrested and charged with five counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to the release. Two people are being treated for serious injuries at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
The incident began at about 2 a.m. Thursday morning when “deputies with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls of multiple vehicles crashed into residences near Tenney’s Mobile Home Park in Buckhannon using three different vehicles,” according to the release.
“Officers with the Buckhannon Police Department were requested to assist and arrived on scene, at the intersection of Poplar and Old Elkins Road, just before the deputies, and discovered that the driver had left the scene,” the release states. “Deputies located the suspect in a 1990 Ford pickup truck on South Florida Street, driving without headlights.”
Tenney failed to stop and rammed another house, deputies say.
“Deputies attempted to stop the suspect, and the driver failed to stop,” the release states. “While pursuing the suspect, they drove to Martin Street and drove into a residence. After the crash, Sheriff Mike Coffman used fire extinguishers to extinguish a fire from the vehicle that would have endangered the residents and the dwelling itself.”
Tenney was arrested and identified at that time.
“Through the initial investigation, it was determined that the defendant intentionally drove into three residences in Upshur County in an attempt to murder multiple people that he believed had wronged him,” the release states. “One victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the other two are being treated for serious injuries at Ruby Memorial Hospital.”
Tenney was arrested and charged with five counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of felony destruction of property, retaliation of a witness, leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury, fleeing with reckless indifference, fleeing while DUI, and DUI causing serious bodily injury, all felony offenses, according to the release. He was transported to Tygart Valley Regional Jail awaiting arraignment by an Upshur County Magistrate.
