Drivers on the roads Wednesday night and Thursday morning should be prepared to face challenging conditions as snow and ice are expected.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory Wednesday evening alerting residents to the possibility of inclement weather.

According to the NWS, mixed precipitation across Upshur, Barbour and Taylor counties could lead to total snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch.

“Plan on slick road conditions, especially bridges,” the advisory reads. “Ice on roadways will be the greatest across northeast West Virginia.”

The advisory expires Thursday at 11 a.m.

“A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain may cause travel difficulties,” according to the NWS. “Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.”

Temperatures Wednesday evening are expected to approach 30 degrees and warm little on Thursday, when the high is just 37. Temperatures slowly tick up through Sunday, when the daytime temp is forecast at 49 degrees.
