I’m Upshur County Commissioner Kristie Tenney, and I am thrilled to announce I will be running for re-election on this year’s Republican ballot. I have served as your District Three Commissioner since 2019. I am a native of Upshur County, and along with my husband, have put down roots here in the community we love so much. It has been an honor to serve the area where I was born and raised, and I’m eager to continue contributing to our county’s prosperity and safety.

My husband J.P. and I are proud graduates of Buckhannon-Upshur High School. We have been married for 28 years and reside in Sago with our dog, Belle. We have two children, Brandon Tenney and Julie Sheldon. Julie and her husband, Logan, are expecting their fourth child this spring—joining Lazarus, Lillian, and Ezekiel. Brandon and his wife, Erica, have a daughter Evelynn and recently welcomed their son Warren into the world. 

Since 2012 I’ve owned Topline Apparel, where we design and produce custom apparel! My husband and I actively attend Christian Fellowship Church with our children and grandchildren. 

J.P. serves as the Principal of the Elkins Mountain School and West Virginia Children’s Home. He spent four years in the U.S. Air Force and over 20 years coaching for Upshur County Schools.

My late father, Paul Carlyle, was the owner of Carlyle’s Texaco and also worked at NRM, the Upshur County Board of Education and CNG. My mother, Karen Carlyle, dedicated 25 years to the Upshur County Board of Education before retiring in 2012. My brother, Jeff Carlyle, has spent 29 years as a Program Manager for the Department of Justice. My mother- and father-in-law are Delores and Frank Tenney. 

Since 2019, I have been committed to serving the Upshur County citizens through a strong work ethic, dedication and honesty. During my tenure, I was blessed to be able to serve as president for three years. I have focused on economic growth, public safety, and youth opportunities. As a result of the efforts by the commission, we have made significant progress in improving courthouse security, obtaining successful grant acquisitions to improve our courthouse and upgrade our police fleet and needed police equipment. Our OEM and Parks and Recreation offices have also seen significant growth. We are currently working on several projects, including beautification and enhancing opportunities behind the courthouse, along with development and preparation on the Route 33 property donated to the county from the JF Allen company. 

I currently serve as an Executive Committee Member of the County Commission Association and the West Virginia Region 4 First Foundation. I am also honored to serve on the preservation board for West Virginia, and several local boards including FRN, Mountain Cap, Region VII, EEtab and the County Fire Board. However, there is still more work to be done at the local county level, and I am seeking your vote and support for another term as County Commissioner for Upshur County. 

I have worked hard to ensure that our county government operates with integrity, transparency, and fiscal responsibility. I understand the importance of responsible government spending and have worked with my fellow commissioners to find creative solutions to keep our county moving forward while being mindful of our taxpayer dollars. I would be honored if you would vote to KEEP Kristie Tenney as your Upshur County Commissioner May 14, as we continue to build a better Upshur County for my family and yours.
