Frances “Fran” Marie Lawson

Frances “Fran” Marie Lawson, 88, of Blountville, TN, and previously of Buckhannon, WV, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at American House Assisted Living in Kingsport, TN.

She was born in Paris, IL, on December 17, 1935, a daughter of the late Carroll D. Lawson and Mary Elizabeth Weger Lawson.

In addition to her parents, Fran was preceded in death by her companion of more than sixteen years, Stephen Tinelli, who passed in November of 2022. Fran is also preceded death by two brothers: Andy Lawson and Bill Lawson; and one sister, Rachel Smith.

Forever cherishing their memories of Fran are five children: Cynthia Fleenor and husband, James, of Blountville, TN, Scott Link and wife, Kelly, of Fairmont, WV, Annie Alborano and husband, Mike, of Georgia, Gus Link and wife, Judy, of Califon, NJ, and Ben Link and wife, Lisa, of Bluffton, SC; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters: Nancy Dean of Danville, IL, and Jane Summers and husband, Joe, of Covington, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

Fran graduated from Perryville High School in 1953. Her passion for education led her to pursue a Master’s Degree in Education from West Virginia University which she received in 1985. She spent many rewarding years as a Special Education Teacher in the Lewis County school system, touching the lives of many children with her genuine care and commitment. Fran was an avid runner, often winning awards in her age group for her speed and endurance. She was an accomplished athlete, a dedicated educator, and most importantly, a sweet and loving mother and grandmother. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her family and the many students whose lives she touched. As Maya Angelou said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Fran will be remembered for the love and warmth she brought into the lives of those around her.

Fran’s request for Cremation has been honored. A Private Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
