John Peter Marans

John Peter Marans, age 63, of Buckhannon, WV, died Monday, June 19, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.

He was born September 6, 1959, in Hackensack, NJ, a son of the late Meyer and Dolores Thorve Marans.

On April 7, 2007, he married MaryAnn Parr Marans, who survives. Also surviving one daughter, Bobby Jo Powell and husband Joseph Carter of NJ; three sons, Craig Marans and wife Jennifer of FL, John Stevenson of NJ and Andrew McFadden and wife Melissa; one step daughter, Faith Scibienski and husband Daniel of NJ; several grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Rotondi of NJ and Deborah Merritt and husband Ike of NJ; special brother, Tommy Smith of PA; special mother Mary Smith of NJ; special sister Robin Mosley and husband Gary of NJ; sister-in-law, Betty Jean Parr of NJ and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Aiko and Horace Parr; sister-in-law, Christine Parr and special mother, Ruby Wynn.

Mr. Marans was an avid outdoorsman who loved fly and trout fishing. In his free time, he enjoyed playing with his Xbox. Mr. Marans served in the Army National Guard and was deployed to Iraq, where he served as a ranger. He received the following for his service: Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device.

Friends will be received for a memorial gathering Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon. A memorial service will follow at 7 PM with Pastor Ed Lowther officiating. Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors.
