Softball Lady ‘Cats eliminated from MEC Tournament by Notre Dame

TROUTVILLE, Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan softball team fell to Notre Dame College 3-2 Saturday afternoon at the MEC Tournament. With the loss, the Lady Bobcats have been eliminated and now await their selection on Monday morning for the NCAA Tournament.

The Falcons loaded the bases in the top of the first using a walk to plate the first run and a blooper down the left field line to score two more runs, making it 3-0.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Bobcats were down to their final outs of the game, still trailing by three.

Savannah O’Shields was hit by a pitch and Hallie Dinklocker singled, setting up Bella Posey’s one-run single to right to cut into the Falcon lead to two. Morgan Norris kept the Lady Bobcats in it with another single, trimming the lead to just one. With a runner in scoring position, WVWC couldn’t force extras or win the game as a pop up to the second baseman ended the game.

The Falcons were held to just three hits as Meadow Odum’s two-run double turned out to be a key hit for the Falcons. Alyss Wahl added an RBI as well. Grace Fisher pitched a complete game, giving up two runs (earned) on six hits and striking out two.

Dinklocker finished the game with two hits with Posey and Norris both recording an RBI for the Lady ‘Cats. Hannah Hudson took the loss, pitching six innings and surrendering three runs (all earned) on three hits and two walks while also striking out seven.
