BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital is recognizing its laboratory staff during Medical Laboratory Professionals Week April 23 through April 29.

The week is an annual celebration of the vital role that medical laboratory professionals and pathologists play in health care and patient advocacy.  The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) chose the theme “The Future is Lab” for 2023. This theme celebrates laboratory professionals who protect our future by skillfully adapting to meet today’s evolving patient care and public health challenges with resilience, innovation, and expertise.

Medical Laboratory Professionals Week originated in 1975 as National Medical Laboratory Week, or NMLW, under the auspices of the American Society for Medical Technology, now called the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS).
