Tennis Lady Bucs fall to Bridgeport, 7-0

BRIDGEPORT – The Buckhannon-Upshur tennis Lady Bucs dropped a 7-0 road decision to Bridgeport last Thursday in Big 10 Conference action but were competitive in two matches.

Madelyn Frye was oh so close to a win dropping a 9-8 decision on a 7-3 tiebreaker at No. 3 singles to Presley Carlyle and Frye and Mya Critchfield dropped a 9-7 verdict to Carlyle and Madison Hansberry at No. 2 doubles.

“I have to give a shout out to Madelyn in her singles match,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Rock. “She played really hard and probably ran a few miles covering the court. She played a player who has a very similar game and it came down to the tiebreaker. Unfortunately she had some bad luck in the tiebreaker but it was a great match. Most of the girls matches were fairly competitive which we couldn’t have said against Bridgeport a year or two ago so it shows we are growing and getting better.”

The loss left the Lady Bucs with a 1-7 overall record and a 1-3 mark in the Big 10 Conference.

They were slated to play Lincoln on Monday.

They will return to action Wednesday hosting Morgantown at 4 p.m.
