Scott D. Barker

Scott D. Barker, age 79, of Buckhannon, WV, died Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at his home.

He was born March 14, 1943, in Gilmer County, WV, a son of the late Scott and Geneva Bell Barnett Barker. On September 1, 2001 he married Betty Ann Morrison who preceded him in death on November 5, 2010. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, who raised him, Ernie and Sadie Barnett.

Surviving are two daughters, Becky McDaniels and husband Matt of Buckhannon and Heather Pitzer and husband Rich of Bridgeport, WV; one son, Wayne Simon and wife Arienne of Harrison City, PA; seven grandchildren, Richard, Ryan and Rhianna Pitzer all of Bridgeport; Shelby and Brody McDaniels of Buckhannon and Braeden and Caeley Simon of Harrison City and several step-children and grandchildren.

Mr. Barker was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the U. S. Army as well as a proud member of the Upshur County V.F.W. and Honor Guard. In his free time, Scott was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. But, more than anything he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Friends will be received for a memorial gathering Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 1 PM to 3 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM with Pastor J. Edward McDaniels officiating. The Upshur County Honor Guard will perform military honors at the funeral home following the service. In honoring Mr. Barker’s wishes, he will be cremated.

Lacrosse Bucs crush Wheeing Park for first win, 15-3

Buckhannon-Upshur powered to its first win of the season with a 15-3 rout of Wheeling Park, using balanced scoring from seven players despite a near 30-minute delay. Braylon Oldaker, Easton Rice and Tobias Marple netted three goals each as the Bucs improved to 1-1.
