BUCKHANNON – The temperatures are dropping, and spooky season is quickly approaching in Buckhannon.
Colonial Arts Center director Anne Wilson attended the Sept. 22 Consolidated Public Works Board meeting to detail a series of upcoming Halloween events and ask for permission to use Jawbone Park and iron out a 5K route.
“Beginning Oct. 1 Stockert Youth and Community Center is hosting an event called the Buckhannoween; it’s like a Halloween party with costume contests, prizes, and things like that. and it’s also partnered with Buckhannacon,” Wilson said. “The following Sunday on Oct. 2 the Buckhannon Theater is hosting a ‘Clue’ live-action game and fundraising event where people can make teams of four to eight people, and they can get together to play.”

“On Oct. 6 through the ninth is the actual run of the production of “Clue,” with Buckhannon Community Theatre at the Colonial Arts Center,” Wilson said. “Following that on Oct. 20, and 21st, we want to offer a free movie night, showing two films, one of which is the original ‘Night of the Living Dead’ and then the second one is actually an oCriginal film that was produced by our education facilitator from the Board of Education Jakob Spruce, so that would be two nights at 7:30 p.m. and that would also be in the Colonial Art Center main stage.”
SYCC is going to morph into a haunted house Oct. 21 from 6 to 10 p.m. and on Oct. 22 a Zombie 5K event with a costume contest and prizes will start at 9 a.m. at the Colonial Arts Center.
“The City of Buckhannon Trunk or Treat event will take place on Oct. 28. from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Public Safety Complex and then on Oct. 29, we would like to host a Zombie Walk where everybody would register at the Colonial Arts Center lobby and we would have a costume contest and parade down Traders Alley to Jawbone Park to take group photos,” Wilson said. “I know this is something that’s been done in the past, but this would be the first year where the Colonial Arts Center would be hosting this event and then after the photos and all of that, there is an optional zombie crawl to Stone Tower Brews, CJ baggies and the Whistle Stop.”
To wrap up October, Trick or Treat in the county and the city is taking place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31.
“I feel like this is something that we could bring back every year and I think it can be really fun for our community,” Wilson said.
The board approved Wilson’s request to use the park and the proposed 5K route.
