ELKINS, W.Va.– The West Virginia Wesleyan (3-2-2) men’s soccer team traveled down the road for a Mountain East Conference matchup against No. 3 Davis & Elkins (5-0-0) on Wednesday (Sept. 21) at Nutall Field. Davis & Elkins won the match 2-0.
In the first half, the Bobcats had a chance to go up when Sam Newell struck the ball and just missed the goal by hitting the side post. In the 21st minute, Kevin Zapata found himself inside the area after a deflection and was able to put it past Bryant Sheffield. Three minutes later, Haruki Yamazaki took a shot from outside the box and was able to get a deflection from a Bobcat defender to switch the movement of the ball and end up in goal. Bryant Sheffield came up big for the Bobcats when he saved a freekick with the tips of his fingers.
In the second half, the Bobcats took control of the momentum and were able to register dangerous chances on target. The Senators’ goal line clearances kept the Bobcats off the scoreboard. Sheffield once again came up big with a one-on-one save to keep it at 2-0.
WVWC will host a non-conference game against Cedarville at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Cebe Ross Field.
