Soccer Bucs come up short in 6-1 home setback to Brooke

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer soccer team couldn’t slow down the Brooke Bruins in a 6-1 home setback Saturday afternoon.

It was a frustrating loss for Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato who felt is team was trending in the right direction this week.

“To be honest today was quite frustrating as I felt we made some great strides Thursday and had a great practice Friday, but we were once again battling illness and injury as we were shorthanded once again,” stated Donato. “When we did just settle down and play we did some good things today. Brooke is a solid, well-coached team and that definitely presented a challenge this afternoon. Best we can do is try to get everyone healthy and game plan for the next one.”

Brooke scored three first-half goals with Evan Corso, Nick Sagar and Ben Ferguson each tallying one.

Christian Packer scored consecutive goals for Brooke in the second half to up their lead to 5-0.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s lone goal came in the 59th minute when Zach Calef-Boring scored on a penalty kick.

Ferguson wrapped up the scoring with a goal for Brooke in the 70th minute.
