BUCKHANNON – Summer is alive and well in Upshur County. Experience Buckhannon through a variety of family-friendly events held across Upshur County this month. Meet the locals, shop local, eat local and experience the big time charm of Buckhannon this summer.

Farmer’s Market

  • Start: July 1, 4:00 p.m.
  • Ends: Through the end of Summer, 8:00 p.m.
  • Location: Jawbone Park, Madison Street in Buckhannon

The Buckhannon-Upshur Farmers Market is a small, modest market that seeks to meet the fresh produce needs of the local community. Our farmers hold close relationships with their customers and are committed to bringing the highest-quality, freshest products to the community. The Buckhannon-Upshur Farmers Market works in close relationship with the WVU Extension office in Upshur County and partners with Upshur County Schools, Create Buckhannon, Festival Fridays, and other local community organizations as requested.

Visit the Buckhannon-Upshur Farmer’s Market every Friday evening at Jawbone Park through the end of the summer from 4 to 8 p.m.

Outdoor Yoga

  • Start: July 4, 7:00 p.m.
  • End: July 25, 8:00 p.m.
  • Location: Buckhannon Riverwalk Park, Camden Avenue in Buckhannon

Wild Vinyasa Yoga brings a rejuvenating outdoor flow at the Riverwalk, by WV Wesleyan College! We will practice outside, weather permitting of course. This class is open to all levels but not suitable for young children (teens are welcome). Please bring your own yoga mat & water bottle. I suggest dressing in layers, bringing a blanket to put your yoga mat on, and bringing yoga blocks if needed. Check the Facebook Page the day of when it’s raining or cold. Class is weather permitting. Members of Wild Vinyasa Yoga Studio may use a class pass for this class. College students are free with student ID.

Women’s Defense Seminar

  • Start: July 30, 2:00 p.m.

  • Location: Mountain State Martial Arts and Fitness, 38 N. Kanawha Street in Buckhannon

Learn from a world-renowned fighter, 5th degree black belt in Chuck Norris System, and second degree black belt in Krav Maga Self-Defense. She specializes in women’s self-defense and bully defense. Master Megan Linger will make sure you are safe in the outside world! $20 ages 10 and up, no experience needed.

Fish Hawk Acres Farm Dinner

  • Start: July 21, 6:00 p.m.
  • End: July 21, 8:30 p.m.
  • Location: Fish Hawk Acres Farm, 88 Rock Cave Road in Rock Cave

2022 Zach Post Memorial “Go Big or Go Home” Golf Tournament

  • Start: July 30, 8:00 a.m.
  • End: July 30,
  • Location: Buckhannon Country Club, 551 Tallmansville Road in Buckhannon

This years tournament will take place at Buckhannon Country Club.

  • 4 person teams ($240 per team)
  • $60 per person (includes 18 holes, a cart, and a lunch)
  • Scramble Tournament

Registration will start at 8 a.m. Golf will start at 9:00 a.m. All proceeds will go to Gauley River Boys Inc., to fund a scholarship to a local graduating senior focused on mental health services. The focus of Gauley River Boys Inc. is to fund efforts for suicide prevention and awareness in our community. Please spread the word! We plan to celebrate in style! We will be hearing the sweet sounds of Kyler Tucker and Friends, in addition to the blazing spectacle of stunning fire dancers, Out of the Ashes. And the magic doesn’t stop there! Housed in The Blaxxmith Shop will be a Reiki Guru. And the icing on the cake? We are taking our “masks” serious. Feel free to come dressed in masquerading fashion! 1st Annual Gray Barker Liars Contest Featuring Bil Lepp

The 1st Annual Gray Barker Liars Contest will be a celebration of the art of stretching the truth. Buckhannon’s own Gray Barker was a writer known for making a business out of telling some larger-than-life tales about the Men in Black and UFOs in West Virginia. This event will be hosted by James Froemel (3-time winner, WV’s Best Liar) and headlined by Bil Lepp. This will be an epic night to remember!Come see these champion storytellers, and also sign up to compete in the competition, if you are crazy enough! Your tale could be worth $100 and some awesome bragging rights.
