JV Bucs blast Hampshire, 63-31

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers blanked the Hampshire Trojans by a 14-0 score in the first quarter and never looked back en route to an easy 63-31 victory Monday evening.

“Our defense played well,” noted JV coach Keith Wolverton. “We played our 2-3 zone very well. It is something we have been working very hard on.”

With Keyton Lanier scoring five points and Nathaniel Ringer four, Luke Yardley three and Carter Zuliani two, the JV Bucs raced out to their 14-0 point lead.

The JV Bucs continued their dominance in the second quarter winning the canto by a 21-5 margin for a 35-5 lead.

Jaden Westfall had six points in the quarter while Ringer had five, Jonas Barton and Lanier three, and Zuliani and Bryson Johnston two each.

With Lanier scoring eight points, Ringer five and Ryan Snyder two, the JV Bucs won the third quarter by a 14-10 margin.

That gave them a 49-15 advantage heading into the final quarter.

With their comfortable lead, the JV Bucs dropped the last quarter by a 16-13 margin.

James Smouse had five points, Yardley three, Johnston and Zuliani two each and Ryan Kelley one in that final quarter.

Lanier led the JV Bucs with 16 points while Ringer added 14 points.

The JV Bucs had their games on Wednesday with North Marion and Grafton on Friday postponed.

The JV Bucs are now 3-4 on the season.

They will play again Wednesday at Liberty. That game will start at 5:45 p.m.
