Lewis County sheriff’s deputies, state police investigating Dec. 27 fatal shooting

WESTON – Lewis County law enforcement are investigating a fatal shooting of a woman that reportedly took place shortly after 10 p.m. Monday, according to a press release from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department.

The press release, issued Tuesday, Dec. 28, says the Lewis County E911 Communication Center received a report of an unresponsive 36-year-old female from the Ireland-Wildcat area at 10:14 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27.

“As emergency crews responded, the Lewis County 911 [Center] received additional information of possible shots being fired at a residence located on Shoemaker Road,” the release says. “Law enforcement and EMS arrived on scene finding the female deceased inside the residence.”

During the on-scene investigation, police received a report indicating “an unknown subject had come to the resident at the time the shots were fired and fled the scene,” the release states.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no one was in custody as the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department and West Virginia State Police continued the ongoing investigation. As of 1:15 p.m. Dec. 28, no new information had emerged in the case, according to an official with the sheriff’s office.
