TENNERTON – The Buckhannon Kroger’s new supermarket fuel center is slated to open by the end of January 2022, a representative with the company has confirmed.

James Menees, corporate affairs manager for Kroger’s mid-Atlantic region, said Thursday that company officials estimate the new fuel center at the Tennerton-based grocery store is on track to be open by either late January 2022 or early February.

“We’re on schedule for completion at the end of January,” Menees told My Buckhannon. “This is a significant offering, and we know that the community and the residents are looking forward to the fuel center being completed and open for business.”

The Kroger Co. Family of Stores Loyalty programs allows supermarket customers to earn fuel points that may be redeemed for discounts on fuel at Kroger gas stations and some partner fuel stations.

“You earn fuel points for dollars spend that can be redeemed for fuel,” Menees said. “When you use your shopper’s card, you earn one fuel point for every dollar that you spend, and then those fuel points can be used to save on fuel.”

Menees said the company appreciates residents’ support of the store and excitement for the fuel center.

“It’s a great offering for the customers and the community, and it enables customers to save on fuel every time they shop,” he added. “We’re as eager as the residents are of Buckhannon and Upshur County to get the fuel center open, and we’re looking forward to it happening.”

The addition of a fuel center to the Buckhannon location will make the store the fifth in the Mountain State to feature a supermarket fuel station; others include stores in Elkins, Clarksburg, Rainelle and Elkview. Kroger first announced plans to add a fuel station ahead of its grand re-opening following an electrical fire.

The Kroger Company operates 41 stores in West Virginia, employing just over 4,600 people, according to information on the corporation’s website.
