BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Dr. Danette Ifert Johnson ’90 will receive the West Virginia Wesleyan Service Award at the college’s annual Founders Day Convocation on Friday, Oct. 5. Dr. Johnson currently serves as Vice Provost for Academic Programs at Ithaca College. Since 2004, she has held the roles of Professor of Communication Studies, inaugural Director of Ithaca College’s Integrative Core Curriculum and Assistant Provost.
She is being honored for her service and leadership to the college’s Alumni Council from 2008-2017, where held positions as President and First Vice President.
Prior to joining the faculty at Ithaca, Dr. Johnson was a member of the faculty at Texas Tech University and Wesleyan. During her time on Wesleyan’s faculty, she served as the Director of Forensics and Director of General Education and Assessment.
She is the Past President and Past Executive Director of the Eastern Communication Association (ECA) and has been recognized by ECA as a Distinguished Teaching Fellow and as a Distinguished Research Fellow.
An active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ithaca, she presently sings with the Chancel Choir and is a member of the Reconciling Ministries Team. Her engagement in the community includes service as Advancement Chair for Boy Scout Troop 4 and President of the Northeast Elementary School PTA.
Dr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and History at Wesleyan. She holds a M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication Studies from Northwestern University and a second M.A. in Educational Psychology from West Virginia University.
