Lady Bucs hold off Philip Barbour for 2-1 victory

TENNERTON – With all the scoring coming in the first half, the Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs outlasted the Philip Barbour Colts by a 2-1 score Thursday evening in a home Big 10 Conference contest.

Lexi Kelley put the Lady Bucs on the scoreboard first with a goal in the 12th minute.

She ran onto a loose ball and cut back along the end line and beat a Philip Barbour defender and scored from the left side of the net staking Buckhannon-Upshur to a 1-0 lead.

Arrington Sparks tied the game for the Colts in the 30th minute with a goal after playing a cross from Audrey Williams.

The eventual game-winning goal belonged to Catherine Oliveto in the 36th minute.

Miranda Greene played a through ball to Oliveto who ran onto it and took it deep in the box and scored.

The Lady Bucs were able to keep Philip Barbour off the scoreboard the final 40 minutes of the second half for the one-goal victory.

The Lady Bucs owned an 8-6 lead in shots-on-goal but trailed in corner kicks by a 7-2 margin.

B-U keeper Kyndal Davis made five saves while Philip Barbour’s Sara Simon turned away six shots.

The win improved the Lady Bucs of head coach Jackie Zuliani to 10-4-1 on the season and 8-1 in the Big 10 Conference.

They will return to the pitch on Tuesday hosting Bridgeport at 5:30 p.m.
