5K ruck/run/walk to support veterans Nov. 8 in Philippi

A Salute to Veterans event at Battlers Knob on Nov. 8 will feature a 5K ruck, 5K run and Mountaineer Mile walk with early registration perks, T-shirts, challenge coins, swag, raffles and a free hot dog dinner.

A 5K Ruck, 5K Run and Mountaineer Mile walk will take place on the morning of Saturday, November 8, at Battlers Knob, as part of their day-long Salute to Veterans.

To participate in the 5K Ruck, a registrant must carry extra weight on their body as they run the 5K course. This extra weight is symbolic of the weight that our military carries as part of their gear.  It is also symbolic of the heavy mental and emotional weight military personnel often carry throughout their lives.

The race site opens at 7 AM, and the step off is at 8:30 AM.  Registration remains open until shortly before race time, but pre-registration online is strongly encouraged to avoid extra fees and wait time on race day.

T-shirts are guaranteed to everyone who registers online by October 31.  Custom designed, one-of-a-kind, military challenge coins for current and former military will be presented to those who sign up online on or before October 31.  Swag bags, free raffles, and a free hot dog dinner are also included with registration.

In addition to the 5K Ruck and 5K Run, a one-mile walk will be held in cooperation with Governor Patrick Morrisey’s health initiative known as the Mountaineer Mile.
