Lady Bobcats beat Urbana on Senior Day

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan College women’s soccer team remains undefeated in Mountain East Conference play with a 2-0 win over the Urbana Blue Knights on Sunday.

Before the game, the Lady Bobcats recognized their seniors for the their contributions to the school and the soccer program: Jenna Alonge, Audrey Barber, Alex O’Brien, Sydney Porter, Natalie Prater, Taylor Rhodes and Isabella Salas.

Wesleyan got on the board in the 18th minute when MaKatlyn Tucker facilitated a through ball for Prater, who beat the keeper with her well-placed shot that sneaked into the bottom-left corner.

The 1-0 score stood until the 74th minute. Jadyn Tavelkelian’s throw-in bounced around in the box and was eventually intercepted by Marissa Zetty, who fired a shot to the bottom-right corner to beat the Urbana keeper and add some insurance through the final minutes.

Urbana dropped to 3-11 overall and 2-9 in conference matchups following the loss. The WVWC squad remained unbeaten in conference games at 9-0-2 and improved to 11-1-2 for the season.

The LBC will head to Fairmont State on Thursday before finishing out the regular season at home on Sunday against Shepherd. That match is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
