XC Lady Bucs take runner-up honors in Forest Festival Invitational

ELKINS – Lydia Falkenstein ran second and Samantha Shreve finished fourth to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur cross country Lady Bucs to a runner-up finish in the seven-team Forest Festival Invitational Saturday morning.

Falkenstein clocked a time of 21:30.04 while Shreve finished with a time of 22:43.35.

Those two times helped the Lady Bucs take second overall with 66 points.

Doddridge County won the team title with 42 points while Braxton County was behind the Lady Bucs in third place with 72 points.

Alexis Lamb of Doddridge County won the individual crown with a time of 20:57.25.

Also scoring for the Lady Bucs were Mia Sappey in 14th (24:20.93), Brianna Dalton in 21st (24:20.92) and Jessica Williams in 28th (26.19.01).

Other finishers for the Lady Bucs were Pressley Bowers in 31st (26:24.11), Kaydence Monti in 46th (31:49.09), Harlee Gillum in 48th (32:03.94) and Malia Bowers in 50th (32:56.52).

“The girls ran great against a really solid Doddridge team,” stated Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Taylor Stacy. “We were without Miah Reger this race and that hurt our team score a little. The rest of the girls did a good job of picking up the slack and putting together some meaningful performances. We’re improving every week and that’s the biggest goal. With a little over a month until championship season, I’m really happy with our progress to this point in the year.”

The Lady Bucs will run again this Saturday at Kingwood in the Big 10/Cardinal Conference Challenge.
