XC Bucs place fourth in debut at University

MORGANTOWN – The Buckhannon-Upshur cross country Buccaneers opened their 2022 season Tuesday in the University Warm-Up.

The Bucs placed fourth out of five complete teams with 102 points.

University was first with 22 points while Frankfort was second with 33 and Morgantown was third with 85. Trailing the Bucs were the East Fairmont Bees with 115 points.

Brooke, Clay Battelle and Doddridge County did not field complete teams.

Jordan Gillum was the top B-U runner finishing 11th with a time of 17:03.8.

Others scoring for Buckhannon-Upshur were Jack Waggy placing 14th (17:43.3), Reis Leondard taking 22nd (18:41.1), Brycen Allen running 31st (19:40.6) and Owen Cutright placing 33rd (19:43.3).

The other Bucs competing were Joey Nolte in 36th (20:00.4), Alex Sappey in 38th (20:10.4), Jeremy Allman in 58th (22:50.2), Weldon Zirkle in 59th (23:24.4) and Brandon Landis in 64th (23.48.9).

University’s Ryan Blohm took individual honors with a time of 15.55.7 while Garrett Ferguson of Frankfort was second with a clocking of 16.12.8.

The Bucs will be back in action Saturday at the Preston Knight Night Relays.
