WVWC volleyball goes down in straight sets to Yellow Jackets

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (3-2-, 3-11) volleyball team dropped a match versus West Virginia State (25-3, 13-1) on Friday night at Rockefeller Center.
 
WVWC Leaders
Lexis Tatum swung for seven kills. Payton Hefner dished out eight assists. The Bobcats tallied three service aces. Maddi CarpenterKennedy Kuhns and Makenzie Yates each secured a service ace. Yates hauled in six digs. Joelle Lalla (3) and Tatum (2) recorded multiple block assists.
 
West Virginia State Leaders
Jenna Dufresne recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Kiersten Eggleton passed 20 assists. Eggleton and Peri Martin each logged a service ace. Libero Alex Darby snagged 11 digs. Grace Martin tallied seven total blocks in the contest.
 
Inside Set One
Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead after a kill from Lalla. The Yellow Jackets grabbed a 6-2 lead after winning the ensuing five points. WVSU claimed four of the next six points to build a 10-4 cushion. The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to nine at 15-6 after scoring three consecutive points. Wesleyan won the next two points to cut the deficit to seven. WVSU responded and won the next four points to build an 11 point lead. WVWC had two separate 3-0 runs to cut away at the WVSU deficit. West Virginia State took the opening set, 25-17.
 
Inside Set Two
After the Yellow Jackets won the first two points of the second set, the Lady Bobcats tied the score thanks to a WVSU service error and attack error. Wesleyan took a one-point lead after a service ace from Carpenter. The Yellow Jackets recaptured the lead after scoring six consecutive points to go up 10-5. West Virginia State grew their lead to nine points after a 4-0 run. WVSU claimed set two, 25-13.
 
Inside Set Three
The Yellow Jackets ripped off five straight points to start the third set. WVSU assembled another 5-0 run to build their lead to 10. West Virginia State would not look back and took the final set, 25-10.
