WVWC tennis teams sweep Bloomsburg

BUCKHANNON, W.Va.– WVWC tennis was back home on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup against Bloomsburg University. Both teams prevailed, with the women winning a nailbiter 4-3 and the men rolling to a 6-1 victory.

The Lady Bobcats swept the doubles contests in the women’s match after Julia Pinto and Alanis Alvarez won the tiebreak at No. 1 to secure the sweep and take the 1-0 lead. Then, Rebecca Osborne won her matchup at no. 5 (7-5, 6-1) to give the Lady Bobcats a 2-0 advantage. However, after Bloomsburg clawed back into the contest, Pinto and Alvarez came back in singles and won critical three-set matches to give the ‘Cats the match.

The men dominated the contest from start to finish sweeping the doubles matches in convincing fashion. Taylor Papworth and Carlos Garces Granero clicked all afternoon winning their match at no. 2 6-0. Camillo Salvi and Kihiro Karasawa took their match at no. 1 6-3. After gaining the 1-0 advantage from the doubles point, the ‘Cats would win five out the six singles matches to take the contest 6-1.

The women will be back in action Saturday at West Liberty while the men will host Bluefield (Va.) College on Sunday.
