WVWC swim teams down ABU

PHILIPPI, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan men’s and women’s swimming teams both defeated Alderson Broaddus while the women’s team also bested Franciscan in a meet hosted by Alderson Broaddus on Saturday.

The WVWC men defeated AB by a 157-63 margin while the women topped the Battlers 166-21 and the Barons 149-101.

The first event of the day was the women’s 200-medley relay where the squad of Amanda SchlorJennifer WilliamsGigi Fusco and Alayna Crane won with a time of 2:05.13.

To the distance events where Morgan Choffin won the 1000-free with a time of 11:44.49 and Lillie Archer competed in the same event (12:50.42). Choffin won the 200-free by turning in a 2:04.53 performance. In the men’s 1000-free, Jakob Bohland touched the wall in 12:01.27 for second place.

Choffin earned first in the women’s 200-free with a time of 2:06.13 while Zeinah Abdelsalam came in third at 2:21.11. Marc Bennett paced two more WVWC swimmers (Devanand Kuttan & Ben Esposito in the men’s 200-free with a time of 1:58.04.

Schlor won the women’s 100-back with a time of 1:06.99 followed closely by Hannah Cook (1:08.65). Williams (1:16.25) was edged by less than a second in the women’s 100-breast. Esposito (1:08.83) took home first in the men’s 100-breast with Bohland (1:10.81) and Stephen Groves (1:13.84) close behind.

Santiago De Stefano Cazavos registered a time of 2:12.94 in the men’s 200-fly. Cook was victorious in the women’s 50-free after a time of 26.91 with Alienor Dalle in close pursuit (27.75). Bohland clocked in at 23.62 to win the men’s 50-free with Kuttan (25.05) and Jackson Igo (26.98) pushing him.

Bennett (51.28) claimed another victory in the men’s 100-free while Schlor (2:23.67) earned another individual win in the women’s 200-back. Cook finished second in that race at 2:26.19.

Kuttan came away with first place in the men’s 200-back after finishing in 2:17.39 while teammate Nick Gerosa turned in a time of 2:21.45 and Russ Sutton logged a 2:43.77. Espositio came in first place again during the men’s 200-breast with a time of 2:31.02.

Archer (6:00.87) cruised to victory in the women’s 500-free. Dalle swam hard to victory in the women’s 100-fly for a 1:06.76 finish. In the men’s 100-fly, Igo touched the wall in 1:08.84 for first place.

Choffin earned her third victory of the afternoon in the women’s 400-IM with a time of 5:04.65 followed by Schlor (5:10.63).

The Bobcat women’s 400-free relay team of Dalle, Cook, Bennet and Crane put a bow on the road meet with a win after a final time of 4:01.99. A Wesleyan men’s team also won the 400-free relay when Gerosa, Esposito, Kuttan and Bohland turned in a time of 3:37.05.
