WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute celebrates state’s first Certified Neurovascular Nurse Practitioner

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute (RNI) nurse practitioner Sara Dobrzynski, M.S.N., A.P.R.N., N.P.-C., A.N.V.P.-B.C., recently earned Advanced Neurovascular Practitioner (A.V.N.P.-B.C.) Board Certification from the Association of Neurovascular Clinicians. She is now the first and only certified neurovascular nurse practitioner in West Virginia.

Board-certified advanced neurovascular nurse practitioners are required to hold a master’s degree, complete a post-graduate acute neurovascular fellowship program, and complete 1,000 clinical hours of advanced training and education in the area of acute neurovascular disease.

“I felt strongly that pursuing this certification to be an expert in acute stroke care as an advanced practice provider would not only benefit my patients but my colleagues,” Dobrzynski said. “Working at a comprehensive stroke center at a major university hospital has been very fulfilling. There is always something new to learn and amazing people to meet. I’m honored to be the first and only certified neurovascular nurse practitioner in the state. I will continue to provide the utmost care to our community through education and research and plan to get more involved with our telestroke services as the RNI continues to expand.”
