The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources stocked 74 lakes and streams across the state with trout during the week of Feb. 16, including several waters in and around the Upshur and Randolph county area.
Waters on the list with local and regional ties include the Middle Fork River, Teter Creek Lake, Dry Fork in Randolph County, Elk River in Randolph and Webster counties, the Right Fork of the Middle Fork River, Tygart River Headwaters and Laurel Fork in Randolph County.
While daily trout stockings are not announced in advance, the WVDNR publishes a list of recently stocked waters at WVdnr.gov/fish-stocking. In the event of inclement weather, hatchery staff will make up missed stockings before the end of the month — weather permitting — through additional stocking runs or by adding extra fish to upcoming stockings. For more information about stocking locations, anglers can check pages 6-7 of the Fishing Regulations Summary, available at WVdnr.gov/fishing-regulations.
All anglers 15 and older are required to have a valid West Virginia fishing license and a form of identification while fishing in the state. A trout stamp is required for those fishing for trout. Licenses and stamps may be purchased online at WVfish.com.
