WVDNR announces physical agility testing dates for Natural Resources Police Officer jobs

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.VA. — The West Virginia Division of Natural Resource (WVDNR) announced today that physical agility tests (PAT) have been scheduled in August for anyone interested in applying to become a Natural Resources Police Officer (NRPO).

All candidates for NRPO positions are required to pass a PAT, which are scheduled to take place August 10 at South Charleston Community Center at 9 a.m.; August 17 at the Beckley YMCA of Southern WV at 9 a.m.; and on Sept. 7 at the Romney Wellness Center at 9 a.m. Walk-ons will be accepted. Applicants will also be required to take a written exam administered by the West Virginia Division of Personnel on Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. at the WVDNR headquarters in South Charleston.

The PAT consists of the following components:

  • Upper Body Strength – Must be able to complete 18 properly executed push-ups within one minute.
  • Aerobic Power (1.5 Mile Run) – Must be able to complete the 1.5 mile run in 14 minutes, 36 seconds. Candidates should bring a change of clothes for the running test.
  • Muscular Endurance – Must be able to complete 28 properly executed sit-ups within one minute.
  • Swimming Test – Must be able to swim 37.5 yards fully clothed. Candidates should bring long pants and a shirt for this test.

NRPOs in the WVDNR Law Enforcement Section are responsible for the prompt, orderly and effective enforcement of all laws and rules of the state and have full law enforcement authority statewide. Of primary importance is the protection of West Virginia’s natural resources to the degree that they are not endangered by unlawful activities.

To be considered for this position, candidates must be willing to relocate and work in any county in the state, must be willing to work all shifts and be on call, and understand that this is a statewide position and that the preferred county of assignment may not be guaranteed.
