Woman driving wrong way on I-79 killed in Clay County

On Monday, January 10, 2022, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Trooper J. A. Miller of the Clay Detachment was advised by Clay County 911, of a driver traveling north in the southbound lane of I-79.

At approximately 5:32 a.m., Trooper Miller was advised, a head-on collision involving the wrong-way driver had occurred. Upon arrival on scene, Trooper Miller found the victim, Elva G. Hudson, 75, of Wallback, West Virginia had suffered severe trauma. Elva Hudson was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The driver of the other vehicle involved did not appear to be injured.

Trooper Miller determined the vehicle being driven by Elva Hudson was the same vehicle reported as traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-79. This investigation remains active and ongoing.
