Winter storm could dump several inches of snow on Upshur County through Saturday afternoon

BUCKHANNON — Upshur County Schools were on a three-hour delay Friday morning as the area braced for a fast-moving winter storm.

According to a Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Charleston, total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are expected through 1 p.m. Saturday, with isolated higher amounts possible, particularly in the mountains.

“Travel could be difficult,” the NWS warns. “The heaviest snowfall will occur Friday afternoon into the overnight hours. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Slow down and use caution while traveling.”

Temperatures are expected to peak in the mid-30s on Friday before falling to about 22 degrees overnight. The high Saturday is 30 degrees, with a low of 13. Warmer weather is forecast next week, with rain and high temperatures in the mid-50s.
