Wet snowstorm Sunday morning closes part of Route 20

BUCKHANNON — Part of Route 20 was closed Sunday morning after numerous wrecks were reported around Upshur County due to wet snow that quickly covered roads.

“Route 20 between Rock Cave and Buckhannon is snow-covered and extremely slick,” the Adrian Volunteer Fire Department posted on social media at about 10:40 a.m. Sunday. “Reports of several vehicles stuck or in ditches. Route 20 is currently closed between Lick Run Road and the high school due to wrecks. Please stay home and off the roads.”

According to the National Weather Service, the snow is expected to lighten after 11 a.m. and become rain as the temperature approaches Sunday’s expected high of 41 degrees. Scattered snow showers are possible through Tuesday, but little accumulation is predicted.
