Weston man charged with murder

A Weston man has been arrested for first-degree murder after a shooting late Saturday night.

Senior Trooper F. J. Turansky with the Weston detachment of the W.Va. State Police said Ronnie Glenn Simons Jr., 56, was arrested without incident after allegedly shooting Joshua S. Runyon, 29, of Lost Creek in the head at a residence along U.S. 33 in Lewis County at 11:46 p.m. Saturday.

According to Turansky, Runyon was transported to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital and then lifeflighted to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, where he passed away at 8:51 a.m. Sunday morning.

Simons was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Turansky said he was initially arrested for malicious wounding and attempted murder, but those charges were dropped and upgraded to one charge of first-degree murder. A .380-caliber pistol was located at the scene, the officer added.

Turansky declined to comment on a motive for the killing but said the two knew each other.

“We are still investigating,” Turansky told My Buckhannon. “It was not domestic-related and it was not drug-related, but I will say the suspect and victim were acquainted.”
