West Virginia reports decrease in active COVID-19 cases, twenty new deaths on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 5,991 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 763 since the last report on Nov. 24.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (84), Barbour (51), Lewis (92), Randolph (48) and Webster (60) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of four active cases since last Wednesday.

Twenty additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 60-year old female from Raleigh County, a 48-year old male from Nicholas County, a 69-year old male from Kanawha County, a 69-year old male from Preston County, a 53-year old female from Taylor County, a 55-year old male from Kanawha County, a 74-year old female from Fayette County, a 63-year old male from Greenbrier County, a 64-year old male from Lincoln County, a 72-year old male from Raleigh County, a 49-year old female from Kanawha County, a 64-year old male from Berkeley County, a 54-year old female from Jefferson County, a 97-year old female from Kanawha County, a 75-year old male from Logan County, an 88-year old female from Randolph County, a 68-year old male from Raleigh County, a 95-year old male from Kanawha County, a 60-year old female from Jefferson County, and an 89-year old female from Preston County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of November 29, 2021, there are currently 5,991 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 20 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 4,837 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.

About 566 residents are hospitalized with the virus (75% unvaccinated, 25% vaccinated), with 182 currently in intensive care (81% unvaccinated, 19% vaccinated) and 104 on a ventilator (87% unvaccinated, 13% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 13.10%.

A total of 918,686 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 51% of the state.
