The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 5,312 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 236 since the last report.
Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (151), Barbour (47), Lewis (84), Randolph (108) and Webster (25) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of eight active cases in the last 24 hours.
One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 62-year old female from Raleigh County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 13, 2021, there have been 3,207,734 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 171,950 total cases and 2,976 deaths,” according to a press release.
The daily percent positive was 1.44%.
A total of 891,398 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 50% of the state.
