West Virginia reports 475 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, five additional deaths

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 475 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (4), Barbour (4), Lewis (1) and Randolph (1) counties.

A total of 32 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 64-year old female from Jackson County, a 45-year old male from Harrison County, a 42-year old female from Logan County, a 95-year old female from Jackson County, and an 84-year old male from Wyoming County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 16, 2021, there have been 2,592,544 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 148,071 total cases and 2,777 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,272 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 138,022 people have recovered and 2,777 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.31%.

A total of 480,870 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
