West Virginia reports 424 new COVID-19 cases Monday, smallest increase since November

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 424 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (5), Barbour (7), Lewis (4) and Randolph (5) counties.

A total of 204 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 63-year old male from Fayette County, a 93-year old male from Cabell County, a 78-year old female from Wetzel County, and a 79-year old male from Wood County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of February 1, 2021, there have been 1,926,680 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 121,425 total cases and 2,028 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 20,615 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 98,782 people have recovered and 2,028 have died. The daily percent positive was 8.03%.

A total of 68,392 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
