West Virginia reports 420 new COVID-19 cases, five deaths on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 420 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (7), Lewis (2), Randolph (1) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 38 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 74-year old male from Jackson County, an 83-year old female from Putnam County, a 72-year old female from Hancock County, a 79-year old male from Fayette County, and a 94-year old male from Harrison County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of April 2, 2021, there have been 2,470,989 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 142,653 total cases and 2,688 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 6,642 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 133,322 people have recovered and 2,688 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.48%.

A total of 342,851 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
