West Virginia reports 415 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, three deaths

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 415 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (2), Barbour (1) and Lewis (1) counties.

A total of 40 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 79-year old male from Greenbrier County, a 70-year old female from Raleigh County, and a 95-year old female from Lincoln County.

“As our country and parts of our state are seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases, please continue all prevention measures to keep your family and neighbors protected,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary, in a press release. “We offer our deepest sympathies to these families.”

According to the DHHR, “as of April 11, 2021, there have been 2,548,540 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 146,169 total cases and 2,745 total deaths.”

About 7,392 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 136,032 people have recovered and 2,745 have died. The daily percent positive was 5.07%.

A total of 460,331 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
