West Virginia reports 405 new COVID-19 cases, five deaths on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 405 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (2), Barbour (2) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 31 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 40-year old male from Kanawha County, a 74-year old female from Berkeley County, a 52-year old male from Fayette County, an 81-year old female from Mingo County, and a 72-year old male from Wyoming County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 23, 2021, there have been 2,654,442 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 150,693 total cases and 2,813 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,330 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 140,550 people have recovered and 2,813 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.71%.

A total of 543,654 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
