West Virginia reports 385 new COVID-19 cases, eight additional deaths on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 385 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Barbour (1), Lewis (4), Randolph (5) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 17 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Eight additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 64-year old female from Marion County, an 80-year old female from Harrison County, a 75-year old male from Mingo County, a 48-year old female from Hampshire County, a 55-year old female from Kanawha County, a 92-year old male from Mineral County, a 63-year old male from Ohio County, and an 82-year old female from Marion County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 6, 2021, there have been 2,766,533 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 155,341 total cases and 2,713 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,180 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 145,448 people have recovered and 2,713 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.65%.

A total of 655,319 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 37% of the state’s population.
