West Virginia reports 376 active COVID cases, four new deaths on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 376 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 19 since the last report. 

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (9), Barbour (3), Lewis (7), Randolph (7) and Webster (4) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of one active case in the last 24 hours. 

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 80-year old female from Mason County, a 75-year old male from Hardy County, an 89-year old female from Berkeley County, and a 74-year old male from Wetzel County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 1, 2022, there are currently 376 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been four deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,835 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 158 residents are hospitalized with the virus (58% unvaccinated, 42% vaccinated), with 46 currently in intensive care (61% unvaccinated, 39% vaccinated) and 18 on a ventilator (50% unvaccinated, 50% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 1.21%. 

A total of 968,574 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 424,336 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
