West Virginia reports 358 active COVID cases, four new deaths on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 358 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 34 since the last report. 

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (2), Barbour (0), Lewis (1), Randolph (7) and Webster (0) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an unchanged number of active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 62-year old male from Morgan County, a 79-year old female from Harrison County, a 79-year old female from Greenbrier County, and a 26-year old male from Kanawha County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 8, 2022, there are currently 358 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 4 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,753 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 125 residents are hospitalized with the virus (59% unvaccinated, 41% vaccinated), with 35 currently in intensive care (67% unvaccinated, 33% vaccinated) and 20 on a ventilator (50% unvaccinated, 50% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 1.59%. 

A total of 940,239 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 436,683 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
