West Virginia reports 326 active COVID cases, three new deaths on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 326 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 18 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (2), Barbour (1), Lewis (1), Randolph (5) and Webster (1) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of two active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 72-year-old male from Preston County, a 61-year-old male from Wood County, and a 72-year-old female from Berkeley County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 13, 2022, there are currently 326 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been 3 deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,777 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 97 residents are hospitalized with the virus (53% unvaccinated, 47% vaccinated), with 34 currently in intensive care (59% unvaccinated, 41% vaccinated) and 12 on a ventilator (50% unvaccinated, 50% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 1.71%. 

A total of 971,140 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 444,057 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
