West Virginia reports 321 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, seven deaths

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday that 321 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (3), Lewis (2) and Randolph (3) counties.

A total of 15 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Seven additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 86-year old female from Monongalia County, a 59-year old male from Kanawha County, a 71-year old female from Boone County, a 71-year old male from Raleigh County, a 68-year old female from Kanawha County, a 73-year old female from Ohio County, and a 70-year old male from Marshall County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 8, 2021, there have been 2,781,925 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 156,001 total cases and 2,726 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,012 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 146,263 people have recovered and 2,726 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.52%.

A total of 663,080 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 37 percent of the state.
