West Virginia reports 307 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, including jumps in Lewis and Randolph counties

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday that 307 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (3), Barbour (6), Lewis (12), Randolph (19) and Webster (4) counties.

A total of 26 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 78-year old female from Mineral County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 15, 2021, there have been 2,832,906 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 158,230 total cases and 2,757 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 6,503 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 148,970 people have recovered and 2,757 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.6%.

A total of 691,758 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 39% of the state.
