West Virginia reports 303 active COVID cases, four new deaths on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 303 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 73 since the last report. 

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (4), Barbour (2), Lewis (3), Randolph (1) and Webster (1) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of five active cases over the weekend.

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 55-year old male from Kanawha County, an 82-year old male from Jefferson County, a 66-year old male from Wood County, and a 78-year old male from Webster County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 4, 2022, there are currently 303 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been four deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,839 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 148 residents are hospitalized with the virus (58% unvaccinated, 42% vaccinated), with 42 currently in intensive care (62% unvaccinated, 38% vaccinated) and 18 on a ventilator (50% unvaccinated, 50% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 1.53%. 

A total of 969,446 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 428,355 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
