West Virginia reports 287 new COVID-19 cases, nine deaths on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 287 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (4), Barbour (6), Lewis (2) and Randolph (6) counties.

A total of 57 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Nine additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 86-year old female from Logan County, an 83-year old female from Webster County, a 76-year old female from Monroe County, an 84-year old female from Raleigh County, a 62-year old male from Wyoming County, a 71-year old male from Jefferson County, a 68-year old male from Monroe County, a 60-year old female from Jefferson County, and a 93-year old female from Wood County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of March 5, 2021, there have been 2,218,488 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 132,964 total cases and 2,318 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 6,144 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 124,502 people have recovered and 2,318 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.54%.

A total of 208,994 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
